i have an 80gb maxtor slaved, mounted via /etc/fstab ::: /dev/hdb1 /mnt/slave vfat defaults 0 0
but i am unable to write to it, reads/executes fine. i believe i cannot chmod/own it since its vfat, correct? i've tried changing the fstab mounting config to several different configs but to no avail. looked thru several forums, all the linux docs, no specific mention of this problem... so i imagine there's a guru here that can shed some light on the subject?? gracias --- joE

unmount the drive with the command:

umount /dev/hdb1

then chmod the directory to 777 with:

chmod 777 /mnt/slave

Then use this line in /etc/fstab:

/dev/hdb1 /mnt/slave vfat defaults,umask=0000 0 0
