Full Version: Kernel Freeze
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
I am quite the rooky linux user. Installed the program on a slave and wanted to duel boot with my windows 2000 to see if I like. I get he grub boot option, but when I select linux the kernels? freeze after "activating swap partitions". It freezes and I am unable to go on. Help. I am sure it is probably something easy, but I am frustrated.

select the linux kernel, press e to edit the kernel (instead of pressing enter). Then move down to the kernel line and press e again.

At the end of the kernel line, add a space and then this:

nousb noapic noapic

Then press enter ... then press b to boot.

If it works, post back here and I'll tell you haw to make it permenant.

When you post the results, please post the distro and version of linux you are using.

Your fix worked like a charm. It is Redhat 9.

Now to get my linksys, etherfast cable modem to work with it. That is next. Thank you for your prompt attention to the fix.

In brief, what was wrong, what did the fix do and why did I need to add the text to the line?
