I used to have this problem with some older distros.
What distro/kernel are you using? (to find your kernel, do 'uname -r')
Are you using a USB mouse, or just a regular PS/2 one?

my distros is rhl 9.0 and mouse is a ps/2 one.
actually i tried to change the configuration of the mouse earliar so that i had switched off the emulate 3 button option.after that it stopped responding and rebooting the system also did not help.
now i am unable to move through kde desktop because i am unable to find keyboard controls.
i am able to get upto the konsole though through(alt+f2) but unable to go ahead from there?what are the files or commands which i should modify or change or anything?

You can edit your /etc/X11/XF86Config file, and find the mouse section.
Can you tell me what it says?
