Full Version: Upgrading/compiling Kernel (grub)
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support

I have always been upgrading/compiling kernel using Joey's Guide for it. Its been a great guide, but something is missing to it. joey's Guide is only covering LILO. Is there a guide similar to Joey's that uses grub as the boot loader rather LILO in compiling/upgraing kernels?

you have to edit the /etc/grub.conf file for grub bootloader changes...
Yes, i have edited /etc/grub.conf and follow the other kernel formats but its always been at kernel panic at boot time, one thing is missing from my added config though is that i dont have the initrd.img.bach-blah.img like the other entries.

I hope i could have a detail howto in configuring grub with kernel.

What is your distro?

You will need to make an initrd image if you are loading your file system drivers as modules.

If you compile all the file system (and controller drivers) into the kernel (with an option =y instead of an option =m), then an initrd.img shouldn't be required.
