I have Just installed SuSE 9.0 and everything is going well apart from the fact that every time I start a program. Even Xterm! SuSE sends a DNS request to my ISDN Router causing it to dial up. I have used a sniffer to determine this but I don't fully understand the output. why is this happening and is there a way to prevent it.

Many thanks

It is probably trying to look up it's own name.

try adding the full name you gave the computer into the /etc/hosts file (if the machine is getting it's address using DHCP, put the full name in the local host line) like this:

first figureout what the names are with the commands:

hostname

domainname

If the output was

SuseLinux for hostname and home.local for domainname, I would then put this in the hosts file:

127.0.0.1 localhost SuseLinux.home.local SuseLinux
