Full Version: Samba Problems

Hi Guys,
I recently had a hard drive die on me and decided to go with Mandrake 10.0, after all I was previously running 9.0 so it was well overdue for an upgrade. I'm kind of wishing I stuck with the good old reliable 9.0.

Anyway everything appears to be quite good so far besides a couple of niggling problems I am having with Samba.

When I do a testparm it comes up with the following:

CODE
Unknown parameter encountered: "domain admin group"
Ignoring unknown parameter "domain admin group"

I managed to suss this one out with a bit of googling, they have changed the domain admin group in 2.2.8a > 3.0 admin users from what I'm led to believe.

I have setup in the smb.conf file like the following
admin users = root darren henry

Anyway I thought ok we'll try going back to a workgroup and then come back and join the domain. It complains about not being able to find the particular domain name which I have called holden.

Looking at /var/log/messages I see the following upon a restart of the samba service.

CODE

Now looking at my hostname it is cpe-144-136-205-175 instead of holden which it should be and was when I was using Mandrake 9.

I have defined the hostname to be holden but as soon as I restart the box the same thing comes back again. Coming to think of it I can do a hostname holden but it still remains the same cpe-144-136-205-175.

I am on Telstra Cable here in Australia and that is my IP address which it gets from a DHCP server on eth0, any idea's how I can change this as I believe to be the likely cause of my problems to date.

Should you need my smb.conf it is located here

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks
Cheers

in Mandrake Control Center (mcc in a terminal or from the menu) and select Network & Internet. Now select Internet access and type holden as the hostname. Exit MCC.

reboot

holden should remain the hostname....
