Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
jps
my host name when I first install mandrake is some like:
x1-ab-2c-y7-z4-e1

I believe that is my MAC address. Anyone know why it defaults to this?

I tried changing it with:
hostname newhostname

no, luck, defaults back to MAC address. this one is killing me..
any help would alleviate some anger.

Hi,

you can change your hostname and make it stay...like this :

/etc/sysconfig/netowork

mine looks like this

CODE
NETWORKING = yes
HOSTNAME = demon
GATEWAY = 192.168.0.250

so change the HOSTNAME to anything else you wan't , reboot, and you'll have your new hostname, wich will NOT change (until you change it here [ /etc/sysconfig/network ] ).

Sincerely
Robert B
