To open vi first open your terminal and type "vi {path of your file}"
if you don't now where youre file is just press search for files in the main menu.
when you open vi just press i for insert mode (youll see it on the bottom) and when youre done editing just press esc (now you are in command mode) then press :w to save and :q to quit (if you want to quit without saving press :q!)
I hope that this will do it

Here is a pretty good vi guide published at the Gentoo website.

Here are a couple more good vi links:

The Vi Lovers Home Page
An Introduction to Display Editing with Vi
Vimdoc
Mastering the VI editor
vi (and clone) docs
VI Helpfile <---Excellent Reference Manual, not much help
Using vi, the Unix Visual Editor
First Steps: vi <---Good to start out with .. has examples!

That should be enough for now..... biggrin.gif
