I asked my hosting company, they told me:

please check your /etc/inittab file for any occurences of getty-wrapper.
This is a tool that listens for log ins on a serial console etc., however,
it is not preinstalled and the phenomenon described below has to be caused
by customizations you performed. You could also try googling for

"respawning too fast" getty redhat

wink.gif i dont know what to do in my /user/local/bin folder i dont have "getty-wrapper and i looked for getty-wrapper on google but found only a german forum on a guy who has the same problem as i have with the same host but i didnt find a solution

What is your Distro and Kernel?

I can't find anything either...
Termina
So you did "vi /etc/inittab" and then look around for any "getty-wrapper" lines, and uncomented them?

and uncomented them?

now i comented the lines that contained getty-wrapper. ill see what happens

CODE
#T0:12345:respawn:/usr/local/bin/getty-wrapper -L ttyS00 57600 vt100
#T1:12345:respawn:/usr/local/bin/getty-wrapper -L ttyS01 57600 vt100

thx for the tip don't know why i didnt come up with the idea dry.gif and ill tell you if my logs are ok or not

what the hell getty-wrapper does any idea...????
hughesjr
getty-wrapper sets up your terminals ... I'm not sure exactly how, but the ones he remarked out are for a serial connection to a serial port at 57600 bits/sec with a vt100 terminal trough com ports 1 and 2.

and a console connection would be (in /etc/inittab):

1:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty1
2:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty2
3:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty3
4:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty4
5:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty5
6:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty6

If you add:
8:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty8
9:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty9

You can get 2 extra terminals in console mode (in X-windows, Ctrl-Alt-F8 and Ctrl-Alt-F9 will work like Ctrl-Alt F1-F6) ... Ctrl-Alt-F7 goes back to GUI.

i have no idea what hughesjr is saying sry blink.gif

as for my logs I rebooted and now I don't have the error any more, so it should be fine ?

btw i rent a dedicated server from 1and1 with root access
hughesjr
yes,

You are fine.

I was posting about what getty-wrapper does ... it sets up your terminal consoles ... and you had 2 setup for serial ports.
