has anyone have any experance with linux VNC Server for remote managment. I can connect to the server but all i get is a gray screen with the Console. cant see the linux desktop...any info would be great!!

I personally don't recommend that you run vnc ... but that you instead do the remote admin via ssh and an encrypted console connection.

If you must use GUI ... a better way (more secure) is still to connect via ssh (set X11 forwarding on in the /etc/ssh/ssh_config file on the client and set X11 forwarding on in /etc/ssh/sshd_config on the server).

Type the command xhost + on your workstation ... connect to the server via ssh, then run the GUI tool you wnat to use from the terminal window on the server .. it should open the gui tool on your workstation.

For example, the command redhat-config-users, would open the user manager on a redhat server.

or if the server is a mandrake server, the command would be mcc.

If you absolutely have to use vnc, then you should set it up securly via these instructions:
