Dave Anstey help me set up an E-Smith linux  web server at our
school but today I ran into trouble and Dave is not around til
tomorrow evening. I was hoping to find someone who could give me a
simple fix. Or at least get it up again til Dave can give me a hand
to solve the problem.

The server was hardly responding at all. I couldn't log on or FTP
to it either across the network or on the computer. I coupld ping
the ip address and get an answer. I restarted the computer and it
went through most of the startup fine...file system check --OK etc
but it ran into some problems. Some went by so fast I could not
read them but the following kept comming up continually for the
rest of the afternoon:

multilog: Fatal: unable to open directory /var/log/qmail: access denied

chmod /var/log/qmail

also check who is the owne of /var/log/qmail...

Robert B
It might also be the the directory was moved/removed accidentially ... or maybe a Disc partition is 100% full. Since there are other problems, I would look at the partition issue.

Have them look in the startup log for errors...
