Full Version: Can't Access Cdrom Drive

I am using Mandrake 9.1, and KDE. I am trying to access my CDROM, but as far as my computer knows, it isn't there. Here's what I have tried:
Clicking the CDROM button on the desktop (I get "could not enter directory /mnt/cdrom")
Switching to /mnt/cdrom through a user shell (I get "bash: cd: /mnt/cdrom: Input/output error")
Switching to /mnt/cdrom through a root shell (I get "bash: cd: /mnt/cdrom: Input/output error")
Restarting the computer and trying everything again (I get the same messages)

I don't know why it's not working, it just stopped, it was working fine before. I had the same problem a couple months ago, and it just started working one day, but now I have the problem again.

I've looked in fstab, but I don't know what to look for, there isn't anything particularly glaring (to me).
Here is fstab:

/dev/hdg1 / ext3 defaults 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0
/dev/hdg6 /home ext3 defaults 1 2
none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/scd0,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0
none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=auto,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,sync,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hdg5 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/cd /mnt/cdrecorder auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0

I've also looked into lilo.conf, because of someone else's suggestion to another post. I did it to no avail.
Here is lilo.conf:

The CDROM drive opens and closes fine, it also blinks fine (the "activity light"), when I put it in and then click on CDROM on the desktop, it pauses like it's working, but then gives me the normal message.

Thank you for your help.

Is it a data cd (you can't mount audio or video CD's / DVD's) ...

try the command:

mount /mnt/cdrom

Make sure the CD is clean (no fingerprints)...try another CD
