Full Version: Restrict Ftp/ssh Access
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
I'd like to restrict what accounts can connect to my computer via FTP (Proftpd) and SSH.

for SSH (and therefore SFTP), edit the file /etc/sshd_config and add the line(s):

AllowUsers user1 user2 user3 user4

AllowGroups group1 group2 group3

DenyUsers user1 user2 user3 user4

DenyGroups group1 group2 group3 group4

then restart sshd (usually /etc/init.d/sshd restart)
in proftpd ... use:

AllowUser bob
AllowUser dave
AllowUser wendy

DenyUser bob
DenyUser dave
DenyUser wendy
Thank you much. smile.gif If I allow only one or two users, are all the rest automaticly denied access? (I'd assume so, just curious)
I think in both cases if you specify specific users, all other have no access ... or if you only want to deny a couple users, you can specifically deny them.
