Ok I was thinking of downloading the kernal and trying to develop my own linux operating system can any one give me some information on how I would go about doing this? ( I am willing to take the time to learn how to program if it requires this) I want to do this because I need to learn sometime just for fun I guess anyways hope to hear from someone!

Check out Linux From Scratch , they publish books on building a full fledge linux system right from scratch. I've gone through the books a few times and find them quite well written. After you learn the basics you can build on to your system from there, adding a package manager if you choose, etc.

Have a look at it, it's also quite fun smile.gif

Yeah, i'd like to get back into Linux From Scratch, but I'm back on a dial-up connection again, and it would take me forever to go and download all the packages needed to put a system together. It's fun though, and when you finally boot into that system, you feel a big accomplishment in what you did, building a linux system from the ground up with little more then suggestions.
