Hi I`m having a problem with startx command.
it`s saying that I don`t have console ownership but worked ok for the longest time.
Can login into the acounts, but startx don`t work from root or anyone of the acounts.
Is there a way to get into the console.

You can't startx if you have logged into the console as one user and then switched to another user uinsg the su command ... but you should be able to startx as the original user.

You can get into a console window from GUI mode by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1 (usually through Ctrl-Alt-F4) ... get back into GUI mode with Ctrl-Alt-F7.

Hi yes ctrl-alta- F# does switch from Gui windows but no matter what gui window I`m in says the same thing once login.
Rebooted the box to see if that was the problem.
Startx always comes up you don`t have console ownership
I have always loged out of the console window from any acount I was login.
Just very strange that startx does not work.
Got to be a command to get it going
