Full Version: Same Machine Different Hd
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
I have just purchased a new HD and would like to make this a dual boot with doze xp as I have to use it for work. I had a bear of a time getting my network configurations working with my last RH9 install and would like to avoid having to go in and fight with this all over again. What should I do to make this transition work smoother? I have backed up all other data that I want to keep already and will probably take the old drive and put it into another machine I have sitting in a closet to use as a router/firewall.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Is your current install all on one drive?

and you are going to replace that drive with the new one?
Migrating a whole partition in Linux is unbeliveably easy ... I just did it twice this weekend.

First print your current fdisk directory layout like this ... boot to Linux and do the command:

fdisk -l /dev/hda

df -h

Now write down or print the fdisk, mount, and DF info.

If you post the above info I will tell you want I would do next....
