Version 9, kernel 2.6.1 has been released recently.

And RedHat is soon to discontinue support for RedHat 9 ... see this page.

RedHat did not officially release a 2.6.1 kernel for RedHat 9 ... the latest official RedHat released kernel is kernel-2.4.20-28.9

There are 2.6.1 kernels available for RedHat 9 from other than the offical updates....

So the answer is ... the latest RedHat Linux release is 9 ... there will be no more RedHat Linux releases and support stops on April 30, 2004. RedHat wants you to migrate to either FedoraCore1 (free) or RedHat Enterprise Linux (definately not free).
