Full Version: A Weird Message At X Startup
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
When I start X, no matter what desktop and when I start certain applications from twm, this weird message pops up:

"/tmp/mcop-chris is not owned by user"

Obviously, my name is chris, and it is in the /tmp directory. Can I erase that file? (And any other file in that directory?)
I might know how it happened though... Sometimes I do "su" and forget to type "exit" before starting X. Can this be it?
I'm not sure what that file is .... but here is a good rule of thumb for any file you want to delete:

change the name by issuing the command:

mv /tmp/mcop-chris /tmp/mcop-chris.bak

restart your system and use it for a week ... if everything works, delete the file!
heh... too late. I erased it, but all works well. But thnks for that "rule" though!
