Full Version: X Problems With New 3d Chip
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
I'm sorry to repost...I noticed there were very few 'views' of my previous post, and I thought maybe the topic was too specific and perhaps the question is a more general one:

I just bought a new motherboard with a VIA KM400 integrated chip. I downloaded and installed the VIA driver.

Now, when I try to run chromium or tuxracer in a user account, there doesn't seem to be any hardware accelleration (very sluggish performance). When I run the same programs as root, they work fine. It seems like the display driver and hardware accelleration should not be user-specific, and I don't know where to look to find the problem.

Any help?

I have not experienced this ... after installing drivers, they should work for all users (since they load at the startup).

Is this a SUSE install ... SUSE sometimes rewrites configuration files if they are manually editied ... you have to use the SUSE tools to edit configurations.
