Full Version: Problem With Redhat Login And Term Prompt
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
I just finished installing RedHat linux 9 and have a problem. At the login screen after I login, it gives me an error about could not lookup ip address for CPE0080c6fe15a9-CM014480118888, this could stop gnome from working corectly, try adding CPE0080c6fe15a9-CM014480118888 to your host table.

I click to login normaly and noticed my terminal prompt reads
[root@CPE0080c6fe15a9-CM014480118888 root]#

this is way too long and I tryed editing my .bashrc but that only changes the title bar.

How can I fix this?
Somehow, CPE0080c6fe15a9-CM014480118888 is you computer name ... did you do that on purpose?

Do you want to change your computer name to something smaller, or leave the computername alone just remove the computer name from the prompt?

Also, are you using DHCP to get your address? If so, you need to add the computer name to the address line in /etc/hosts.
