Full Version: Cups Server On A Home Network
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
Hello, everyone!

After several days of setup-try-setup I gave up:
it seems impossible for me to understand why I cannot print on a CUPS
server on my local network.
So, I will ask for help from some good soul out there ...

Here are the facts:

Let's say that my domain is mynet.lan.
The ADSL modem has firewall and is a router as well; it has a DHCP server and a DNS one ...
There are 3 PCs:
1. zeus.mynet.lan - it has a printer connected on the parallel port
2. hercules.mynet.lan - is a laptop
3. hermes.mynet.lan - is a WinXP machine

All PCs have Fedora Core 1 installed.
I can transfer files from one to another using FISH.
I cannot open an FTP connection between these machines ...

I modified iptables on both PCs with
(enabled everything concerning printing - no other ports specified)

I have used redhat-config-securitylevel as well ... only to find out that it is almost useless ...

On hercules.mynet.lan I can see the lexmark printer on KDE Control Center, but when I
send a test page, nothing happens. (the same thing as with the web interface)
Some print jobs just dissapeared and others are still in queue ...

I give up ! What am I doing wrong?

Please, HELP!

before we troubleshoot ... did you try it with iptables off for all PC's and see if it works....

do the command:

/etc/init.d/iptables stop on each PC and try setting up the printer ... if that works, then we can troubleshoot the firewalls, as it will be shown they are the problem....
