Full Version: Change Computer Name.
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
I installed redhat 9 at work to be a file server. It didnt for somereason ask me for a computer name. So in our win2k machine it doesnt have a name in teh dhcp. Can i change the name to a fully qualified domain name like all off our windows server on our network. So it would show up properly in the dns and dhcp. Once i get all the tweaks out im going to give it a static ip reservation. And i know i can give it a name in the dns manually but i would just preferr it to rename the linux machine as well. I might need to and another one in the future. smile.gif
go to Menu - System Tools - Network Device Control

highlight the applicable network card (eth0, eth1, etc.) and select configure.

You can change from dhcp to static IP and change the Hostname from there.

If the menu launcher is missing, the name of the program is:

redhat-control-network or redhat-config-network (either will work)...
Thanks ill give that a try when i get to work tomorrow.
