I'm attempting to set up my PC as a dual boot WinXP/Red Hat Linux system. I've used PartitionMagic 8.0 to clear up 20 Gigs of unallocated hard drive space for Linux to reside in. When I run the Red Hat installation, when it tries to find drivers, it can't find one for my hard drive. It continues, but when it gets to the part where it asks if I want to do automatic or manual partitioning, no matter what I select, it says it can't find my hard drive and leaves the installation. Any suggestions? I can't even figure what kind of hard drive I have... where can I find that info in WinXP?

Thanks for your help

Can you post any hardware info on the computer? I'm not too familar with XP.

If you have anything like a RAID or SATA hard drive controller linux might have problems installing.

I don't know for sure, but I seem to have an "IDE ATA/ATAPI" hard drive. I'm not sure what that means.

Thanks for your help

No help there. How about posting the rest of the hardware info. What kind of PC is it. Do you know anything else about its internals?

I am running an independantly made Pentium 4 PC. It's running on an Intel D865GBF/GLC motherboard (I'm not sure which one). I called the people who made the computer, and they said that the hard drive controller was integrated onto the motherboard. But they didn't really know much about Linux, so all they could tell me is that they weren't sure if Linux suports serial ATA drives, which is what I have. I'm not sure of the make of the hard drive, but its probably pretty generic. Here is the current partitioning setup of the drive, in this order:
1. NTFS - 50 GB
2. Unallocated - 20 BG
3. FAT32 - 2 GB

Is this enough info? I don't really know anything else...

Thanks for your help

Its your SATA IDE controller.

I haven't found an answer for you yet.
