I recently tried to install gaim via the fedora 1 cd, but it gave me a generic error

I then tried apt-get install gaim, but it wouldn't resolve the dependencies

I manually got pspell, which resolved it, and gaim works great now, but installing pspell apparently conflicts with aspell, and i cannot uninstall it because it is needed by gaim

[root@starship apt]# apt-get upgrade

You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
aspell: Obsoletes: pspell
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.

[root@starship apt]# apt-get -f install

[root@starship apt]# rpm -e pspell
error: Failed dependencies:
libpspell-modules.so.1 is needed by (installed) gaim-0.72-1rh9
libpspell.so.4 is needed by (installed) gaim-0.72-1rh9

can someone please help me?

looks like you have been installing rh9 packages .... do you have the redhat 9 apt-get or the version for fedora core 1?

Here is where to download the fedora core 1 apt-get.

Make sure to use the sources.list from the new apt rpm and then do:

apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

I intalled gaim with no problems...

Also, here is the info from my sources.list for the fedora core stuff....

CODE
rpm http://ayo.freshrpms.net fedora/linux/1/i386 core updates freshrpms
