Hi all, first time here and very impressed with the depth of knowledge....so here we go for my small problem.

Running RH9. Was working fine untill switched on this morning. The system runs through the boot procedure but gives blank screen when it start X.

Have checked the relevant threads, followed the advice given and have found in at the end of the log file /var/log/XFree86.0.log the following:

Could not init font path element unix/:7000, removing from list!

Fatal Server Error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

So now what to do :-( !...any suggestions to guide me to a solution would be greatly appreciated..

Mike.

You can try using the command:

fc-cache

and restarting.

Did you upgrade XFree86 or add fonts to the system before this happened?
