I'm so close. wvdialconf found my modem at ttys4, and I tried to go into a text editor to open up and change /etc/wvdial.conf. To put in the Isp phone, password, and username. It wouldn't let me save it after putting that info in. Then I tried to change the permissions for write, and I couldn't do that either.

How do I get the password, username, and phone number into it so I can just type wvdial, and get online with Linux???

Try doing it as the root user ... If you are not logged in as root, either login as root and use the graphical tools, or...

open a terminal window

use the command su - root

type in the root user's password.

use a console mode editor (like vi, nano, pico or emacs) to edit the file.
