I've just installed red hat nine on my box and am havin trouble with the sound.
I have a sound blaster PCI 128 and have found a linux driver, however i cannot seem to enable the soundcore module.
Changing the setting in modules.conf doesn't seem to help as when i've rebooted it is still set to disable.
any help appreciated (don't hit me cuz i'm a noob)

Do you hear sound if you go to:
Menu - System Settings - Soundcard Detection

nope, it says that the driver is disabled and that my sound card may not be compatible with linux, but it comes with linux drivers

and also redhat picks up the sound card model, it just won't load the driver

I have a sound balster PCI 512 and it works fine with the driver:
emu10k1
Did you download the driver from the creative website?
what is the model number of the soundcard (ct4790, etc.)?

i tried a new sound card, which is a c-media CM8738, again, they have linux drivers and again red hat detects the card, but the sound driver is still disabled, startin to think it's nothin to do with the driver and maybe a hardware conflict or somethin.
gonna kill somethin soon ...
