Full Version: Silent Cd-rom In Mandrake 9.1
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
Hi everyone

Has anyone had this problem before? Just installed Mandrake 9.1. The CD-ROM will read (some) data CDs OK but when I try to play an audio CD no sound comes out. I can see the information about artists and tracks coming up OK but there's just no sound. I found the sound control panel and nothing is flagged as mute. Can anyone help?

Thanks a lot
Do you have other sounds?

If so, the audio cable from the CD player to the SoundCard may not be connected.
Hi Linux Guru

Yes, I have other sounds - keyboard bells and start-up tunes. I guess it's not a simple lack of connection. I also have sound on mpegs that I play.

Any other ideas?

If you have other sounds, then it probably is the connection. All the other sounds don't use the CD-ROM audio connection ... but playing a CD in the CD-ROM drive uses an audio cable.
