Full Version: Linux Rh9 As An Email Server. Admin's?
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
No one seems to be able to help me resolve this problem.
I have setup my linux 9 as an email server. I have opened all ports that are needed on my router. I have registared my domain name and allowed the place where I registered my domain name to host my DNS. (One less thing that I have to worry about. I have configured postfix. I am actually able to connect to the email server and can ping the email server with the following.

Both of these resolve my ipaddress no problem.

But, when I send an email to an account on my machine I get the following.

"Failed to deliver to ''
SMTP module (domain reports
host says:
554 <>:Recipient address rejected: Relay access denied"

Can anyone help me out with this? I am pretty sure it is a problem on my machine. BUT WHAT??

Thanks in advance...
By "Linux 9" I assume you mean Red Hat Linux 9?

Make sure that you have your domain name listed in /etc/mail/local-host-names.

Red Hat by default ships sendmail so it can only receive mail for the local lan. If you want to receive email from the net you have to edit your /etc/mail/ file.

Change this line:

DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=, Name=MTA')dnl

to this:

dnlDAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=, Name=MTA')dnl

Then run:

make -C /etc/mail

and then restart sendmail.

As well you can also look in /var/log/maillog to see if theres any additional errors etc.
