Hi I'm not sure if I'm the administrator or if I have made myself a user.

When I use this command /usr/bin/updatedb it says "you are not authorized to create a default solcate database!"

How do I find that out?

When that's done I would realy like to know how to set up a Samba server.
I'm using Red Hat Linux 8.0 and I'v installed the Samba program but I can't see it anyware why is that.

Hope you can help me

Regards Claus

Try logging on as root by using the su command. Then use updatedb.

samba consists of two daemons nmbd and smbd. You can use the ps ax or top command to see if they are running. Did you select samba to start at boot?

To start samba (as root)
service smb start

If samba doesn't start check the logs for errors /var/log/samba
