Whats the best Linux based OS out there. I know theres a bunch but I don't know anything about any of them. Extra points if they are free for downloading.

That question is really hard to answer. What might be good for me might not work well for you. It all depends on what you are trying to do and how stupid you are smile.gif

Why dont you have a look at the distributions page and compare some of the distributions you are interested in.

If you want to download linux, you can look at the ISO Images on LinuxHelp.ca ... LinuxISO.org is another good resource.

I would say that the easiest to install and use distros that you can download an ISO for and install are:
RedHat
Mandrake

And that these are also free, but harder to install:
Debian
Gentoo
SUSE
Slackware

To just try linux to see if you like it, try:
Morphix
Knoppix
SUSE live CD
