I want to be able to have a sort of alarm clock that will play a xmms playlist at a certain time for a certain length of time.

IE..start @6am play a playlist for 1hour and then stop until next time set.

You will need to use the crontab (cronological table) to do that ... and you will need to be able to pass in a playlist to XMMS via the command line....

so to do this, you would edit your crontab with the command crontab -e

then you would enter the following lines (first type i if vim is you editor)

CODE
15 07 * * 1-5 /usr/bin/xmms --play /mnt/server1/archive/Music/
00 12 * * 1-5 /usr/bin/xmms -t
00 13 * * 1-5 /usr/bin/xmms -t
00 16 * * 1-5 killall /usr/bin/xmms

That will start playing at 07:15 on monday thru friday, and add all the songs in the directory /mnt/server1/archive/Music/ .... stop playing at 12:00pm and restart at 13:00pm and exit xmms at 16:00pm... all on monday to friday, local PC time.
