Full Version: Best Sound Card Support?
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
Ok, I've decided to foget about my Maxi Sound card because i've had no luck getting it two work under Linux.

What is the best sound card to get that has the best "out of the box" support under Mandrake 9.1?

Sound Blaster 16?

Sound Blaster Live?

Any otheres?

I don't want to have to rebuild the kernel or anything, I would rather just get a sound card that the system can find and it will work.

Soundblaster live (or pci 128, pci 512) is a great card ... it uses a sound module that is almost always included in the stock kernels (emu10k1 and ac97_codec).

The cards are also full duplex ... meaning they can record and playback at the same time. This is great for watching a tv channel and recording a different one....

Don't do an ISA type card (like soundblaster 16, awe32 or awe64) because ISA setup is much harder ... PCI plug and play is much easer to setup....
