Anyone who uses linux knows that there is a wealth of information on the internet to help them in their daily tasks. Thousands of users around the world have spent countless hours writing and perfecting Guides, FAQs, HOWTOs, etc. Here at LinuxHelp.ca, we are no different. Over the years we have gathered information from several sources including current and past members of the LinuxHelp staff to help visitors with any questions they may have with Linux.

In the past, we have offered technical support using the IRC (Internet Relay Chat) medium which provided a real-time question/answer conversation. While the end user received their answers almost immediatly, this did prove inefficient for 2 reasons. One, this required LinuxHelp.ca members to constantly be available online in real-time to help the user. And two, questions were offten repeated over and over due to the lack of "history" that the IRC medium could no provide.

These forums were created to help users with more specific questions that require a peer-to-peer conversation, and will allow future users to view the conversations and possibly help them with the same or similier issue. Along with this, it allows the "answerers" to respond on their time frame, which is much more attractive to them.

Linuxhelp.ca has always been a "user helping user" atmosphere. No question is too "newbish" to ask, and we do not tolerate flaming towards anyone. In the end, this provides everyone with a comfortable, friendly medium, where anyone can ask a question, and anyone can answer it.

If you are posting a question in the Help Forums, please include as much information as possible.

This includes:

a) Your Linux Distribution and Verison Number (Example: Red Hat Linux 9)
B) The exact error messages
c) How you came about the error (what steps were taken etc)
d) If it is hardware related please include make/models of the hardware etc.

When you keep your questions to the forums, it leaves a permanent place for them just in case you or anyone else runs into the same problem, you can just come back and search the forums for the answer.
