I admit, I'm a nubie when it comes to Linux, I have about 10 to 15 old 733 MHz Pentium IIIs that are running Win 2000 Pro and do so well. But as everyone knows there is no support for it and it has trouble with lots of websites. I have these in my 9th grade class room so students without computers can type their reports and do online research. I also have them do web-hunts in class as teams to prep for an upcoming assignment. I have tried installing Linux Mint, (64 bit), SolydX201405 (32 bit) as well as Ubuntu 14.04 (64 bit). Unfortunately, None will either run or even install on my hardware. Does anyone know of a distro that will work or even might work? Thanks in advance for any suggestions

First PIII's are 32 bit so 64 bit distributions will not work.
2nd, due to the amount of RAM (no mention but I assume 256MB) you are going to be limited to lighter weight distributions and desktops.

Take a look at the following.
distrowatch.com/search.php?ostype=All&category=Old+Computers&origin=All&basedon=All&notbasedon=None&desktop=All&architecture=All&status=Active

Slitaz, antix, bodhi and maybe lubuntu are my suggestions.
