I'm having problems with my remote server. No http or SSH. I can ping the server but that's all.

I can boot the server with a network rescue image and mount the HD to see the logs.

I can't execute processes targeted at the HD kernel. The boot log files are empty which I understand is related to a redhat bug. I cleared the dmesg log before rebooting and it stays empty.

I've looked at the secure log and there is no recent mention of SSH/sshd. I have a feeling the boot is only reaching level 1. I've no way of knowing this as the server is remote and there is no boot log.

I'd love to know what is being output to the console or see any other logs that help me identify the problem.

Any ideas?

Turns out the boot was stalling due to disk check required.

I fsck'd and away my problems went.
