Full Version: System Freeze While Bringing Up Eth0 Interface
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
I have RH7.3 installed from downloaded ISO images.
The system is basically web server with PHP and MySQL.
After the installation the system works fine for several days or even weeks.

Unfortunatelly after a while if the machine has to be rebooted the system
during bringing up eth0 interface.

I can get into Linux using the interactive mode and skipping all deamons,
but I can
not start the network.( Starting network either manually or during
interactive mode
hangs on bringing up loopback interface instead of eth0).

I did some research on the web but can not find anything how to correct this

Any help is greatly appreciated.

What type of LAN Card are you using? I got the same problem before when I did switch my defective LAN Card with a new one. I've loaded a different module not compatible with what I installed.

Try this.. boot as "linux single" then list the type of modules that is loaded using "lsmod", see the if the module for your LAN card is properly loaded.

Module Size Used by
eepro100 17664 0
3c59x 26336 2

Then check the /etc/modules.conf

alias eth0 3c59x
alias eth1 3c59x
alias eth2 eepro100

The example above is setup for 3 LAN card. Before I was using some 3c501c module or some sort which started the problem.

Hope this helps.
