Full Version: Permission to a specific folder (but only this one)
Linuxhelp > Support > Programming in Linux

I have a linux system built solely for one user. I would like this user to be able to work within one specific folder (where he can creates subfoders, files, execute commands, etc'). Anywhere else (all other folders) he should be able to read, execute commands if he likes, but can't save anything.

What is the way to do it?

Many thanks,

What linux distribution/version are you running?

Typically regular users can only write to their home directory and /tmp and read / execute to most everything else. There are a few directories that only root can access. At first glance this meets your requirements.

It is also possible to set up a "jail" environment where the user is limited to the home directory only.
