Hi,

i am working on a practice assignment for one of my classes and i am having trouble with one question. i know it has something to do with VI/bash but we haven't used Vi much and we have only talked a little about bash. could someone please help me with this or show me an example/ point me in the right redaction or reword/explain it?

Thanks

Create an answer file called a1.A in ~/uli101.a1, containing Unix commands which using a single
command will create two directories in ~/uli101.a1, as shown on the following tree diagram:

.
|-- a1.A
`-- school
`-- work

Welcome to linuxhelp

1st, most forums have rules against asking members provide answers to homework. You will not learn anything by having others do your assignments. However, its ok if you have specific questions or do not understand specific commands.

You can find lots of help on using vi and writing bash scripts by just googling. vi is a command line text editor. Is this what you have been learning in class? You can use it to create your answer file. It isn't clear if your supposed to create a bash script or just a fie with the command that will answer the question.

What commands etc have you been learning in class?

Thanks for the reply

we have used VI only a couble times working with basic commands, learning how to move around, common commands and getting into input mode and a bit of editing. we have only talked a bit about bash/scripts, and we have only coverd basic/common commands pwd,cd,mkdir, premissions, text editing etc,

i have been googling and trying to create the file with a command in VI, but im not having any luck. im not really sure what i should be googling.
