Hello:

I need to copy files from a Windows laptop. I don't have the password for the computer. I am thinking if I can logon using Linux on a USB, then maybe I will have access to the hard drive to copy the files. Is this possible?

Thanks.

Since there is no way to verify if this is your computer you are trying to "break" into I am reluctant to provide help.

Assuming that the laptop has a DVD Drive, get hold of a live distro and fire up the computer using that.
Once loaded, you should be able to access and transfer the files via Ethernet / USB stick etc.
