The following is in the PDF for picoLCD.

QUOTE
Clicking on one of the menu entries will
present a new window which will require
you to enter the administration password.
This is needed because the picoLCD driver
needs a higher level access so it can detach
from kernel HID driver to function correctly.

Is there any other way around that? I need to somehow claim the USB interface without the root access. Anything written to facilitate this?

You mean for picoLCD? http://picolcd.com/

I think I figured out what I need to do. I needed to change the permissions on the device's file descriptor.

So "chown root:usbfs /dev/bus/usb/002/006" gave me access since I'm in the usbfs group.
