Recently I installed Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop Edition on my Dell Dimension 2400. I had two hardrives. One containing my whole life and Windows XP. The other a new blank nothing to worry about P.O.S. Anyways, I installed Ubuntu to the blank hardrive and restarted my computer. It stop at loading grub 2.1 or 2.0 i can't remember but it says error21 and i have to restart my computer. I took the new hardrive out and left the one containing XP in. It still tries to load grub and fails. When I put the other hardrive in it still tries to load and fails. I need to know, if possible, how to get it to load my xp and stop trying to load grub.

Boot the XP install CD into the recovery console and run fixmbr.
