I am setting up a new system to run vdr using an Asus M2N-E motherboard and Asus 8400gs silent Video card. I used debian netinst from 02/21/2009. The kernel that comes with that install is 2.6.26-13. I use the guides at to setup. After running the netinst I built a custom kernel using 2.6.28 but in the dmesg log after boot I have:

ACPI: Power Button (CM) [PWRB]
i2c-adapter i2c-0: nForce2 SMBus adapter at 0x1c00
ACPI: I/O resource nForce2_smbus [0x1c40-0x1c7f] conflicts with ACPI region SM01 [0x1c40-0x1c45]
ACPI: Device needs an ACPI driver
i2c-adapter i2c-1: nForce2 SMBus adapter at 0x1c40
ACPI Warning (nspredef-0858): \_TZ_.THRM._PSL: Return Package type mismatch at index 0 - found [NULL Object Descriptor], expected Reference [20080926]
ACPI: Expecting a [Reference] package element, found type 0
thermal LNXTHERM:01: registered as thermal_zone0

With the default kernel dmesg has:

[ 9.083185] ACPI: Power Button (CM) [PWRB]
[ 9.123730] i2c-adapter i2c-0: nForce2 SMBus adapter at 0x1c00
[ 9.123744] i2c-adapter i2c-1: nForce2 SMBus adapter at 0x1c40
[ 9.327021] input: PC Speaker as /class/input/input3

From what I read, smbus is the sata ports? I don't know if I missed something in kernel config or if this is a kernel bug I found listed here: (

This is a 32 bit setup. I've had another system running for awhile using 64bit using kernel on the same motherboard but different video card and dmesg there looks basicly the same as for the 2.6.26-13 above:

ACPI: Fan [FAN] (on)
i2c-adapter i2c-3: nForce2 SMBus adapter at 0x1c00
i2c-adapter i2c-4: nForce2 SMBus adapter at 0x1c40
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [AAZA] enabled at IRQ 21
