I am unfamiliar with Linux and don't use it except for running Cadence at a lab at school. The problem is that the lab is in a basement and I would much rather work from home. I successfully connected to the server with putty, but couldn't start Cadence because it needed an xwin or something. Does anyone know how I could remotely use the program?

It is possible to run x over ssh. There are many howtos one can find by googling.

For windows you need a client such as xming
