I'm running a Debian Etch server on a 700mhz Apple eMac. I can't get X working (and don't really need it), but since the monitor is built in, I can't turn it off during the terminal session. Is there any way to make the monitor "sleep" (as apple calls the turn-off-monitor function in OS X) during a terminal (non-x) session?
Thanks!

Have a look at the man pages for setterm.

thanks.. i've been using that, but the screen has just been overlayed with black, not truly taking advantage of the VESA power-saving mode. does anyone know of a way to enable VESA on New World macintoshes?
