Hello everyone,

While installing a program I copied some data to my /etc/sysctl.conf file. One of the lines I copied was: fs.file-max = 512 * PROCESSES.

Now I can't do much anything. Basically every command I execute results in: Too many open files in system.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this problem?

Thanks for your help!
Dana

Where is PROCESSES defined?
What program did you install that required you to increase the number?
Boot with your install CD in rescue mode or any liveCD.
Mount the / partition if not already done and edit the file. Stick with a real number
fs.file-max = 4096
