Hi,

I got my debian installed last night, but when i tried to boot after install it stopped right before i got to the gnome desktop. I have had similar problems with live os previously. Laptop is a HP 6240eu. Dual boot with XP, xp works. Gives me black screen and nothing happens at end of debian boot.

Debian comes with GNOME as default, right? I am going to try SuSe and Mandrivia today I think. Maybe KDE will not freeze? Any thoughts?

Are you able to stitch to terminal one. Ctrl + ALT + F1 and login? if you can you probably don't have X configured correctly. and GDM is looping. once you switch you can login in and stop gdm with "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop". Then reconfigure your xserver by typing "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg"

Hope it helps.
