Hi all,

I've just installed debian on a clean system, because I needed a developer box to compile a linux kernel on. (It's for an embedded system)

So, I've downloaded the linux kernel source, extracted it, and typed

make xconfig

I got an error--- can't find Qt libs (but I have KDE running properly and that relies on Qt libs --- what gives?)
not to be defeated, I instead typed:

make gconfig

"Can't find gtk+ libs" (what??! I'm even running this through Gnome Terminal!)

make menuconfig

"Can't find ncurses" (OK, this is getting stupid)

Debian is meant to be a standard gnu/linux system. this should all work properly. aarrrrhhhhh!!!!!!

Any suggestions? Yes I am a debian noob.
