Hi

I desperatley need help .

I am running Ubuntu "hoary hedgehog" 5.04, but when I boot up my Toshiba Portege it does boot up as normal until the logon screen does not appear .

There is a logon option but this in not graphical , i thus cannot access my desktop properly .

I am sure that this is a simple issue but any help would be greatly appreciated .

Did it ever boot to a graphical display?
You can login using your regular username and password. The password is not echoed on the monitor.
The command to start the GUI is:
startx

Post any errors.
