Redhat 9 is no longer being supported and I suggest you go with a recent distribution like Fedora.
To untar the file
tar -jxvf efox-1.5.0.6.tar.gz

Look for instructions in a readme file that will explain how to install the application.

Yes and here you go.

http://www.python.org/

I really think you should go with Fedora. It will have the latest and greatest packages.

Either the 5 ISOs which you need to burn to CDRs or the one DVD if you have a DVD reader. XP can not natively burn ISO files so you need Nero or Roxio or there are free apps like isorecorder. Installation is basically the same as RH9 i.e. boot the PC with the 1st install CD or the DVD and follow the instructions.

If you click on the readme-burning-isos-en us txt file it should open and display its contents in the browser.
The rescue CD is just that and not needed for the install. Fedora comes with lots of stuff. Its been awhile since I installed a FC5 version but do not remember using all install CDs. The sha1sum file contains checksum values so you can verify that the download ISO file is good. If you run sa1sum program with each iso file you should get exact number as in this file. I would go with FC5

ISO files are a byte copy of the CD. Not sure why it came down as rar file. Windows can not natively create burnable CDs from an ISO file so you need either Nero, Roxio EZ CD creator or a freebe like isorecorder. No need to open the file or extract anything prior to burning.
